In the course of the Big Build Event organized by Habitat for Humanity in Romania, 350 volunteers performed an incredible feat: within five days, they built eight houses for eight families in need.

Wienerberger has been cooperating with Habitat for Humanity since 2012, supporting this international charity with expertise and building materials from the Wienerberger Group's product range. Thanks to this partnership, more than 3,000 people in need of help in Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Poland and the USA have already been given a new "home". Previous projects ranged from single- and multi-family homes to schools and a hospice, benefitting families in financial distress, children, older people, people with disabilities and people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds.

At the beginning of July 2018, the cooperation agreement was extended until 2021, the ambitious goal being to help another 1,000 people by providing sustainable and healthy dwellings. In addition, the geographic scope of cooperation was extended to Great Britain, Macedonia and Slovakia.

As one of the world's largest suppliers of building materials and infrastructure solutions, we have set ourselves the goal of supporting the provision of housing for socially disadvantaged people. In doing so, we contribute what we are best at: Our building materials and infrastructure structure solutions and our know-how in sustainable and healthy housing construction.

The Big Build Event in Cumpano, Romania, was one of the first projects in the new phase of cooperation between Habitat for Humanity and Wienerberger. Determined to provide a beautiful and safe "home" for eight needy families, 350 volunteers, supported and accompanied by 30 construction professionals, got down to work and built eight single-family houses, each with 63m² of floor space. The roofs of the new houses were covered with 8,500 clay roof tiles donated by Wienerberger Romania.

The new buildings are located close to other Habitat for Humanity projects already completed, among them a school for which Wienerberger not only provided roof tiles and clay blocks, but also seconded more than 20 of its employees to help with the construction work.
