Training & Development:
Target and performance
Since wienerberger understands the value of employees’ professional advancement for the companies’ continued success, all employees will receive 18 hours of training per person and year. In addition, an accumulated 30,000 hours of training for installers will be provided as the lack of skilled persons on building sites is a major bottleneck for the current building industry. To support young talents especially, 500 apprentices will be trained until 2026.

Success Factors
Trainings contribute to strengthening and implementing our compliance guidelines but also support the organizational developments requiring new IT skills. Implementing our Sustainability Program 2023-2026 requires additional Safety, DEI, Waste and Water Management, and Biodiversity training. Trainings also strongly focus on communication, leadership, and teamwork skills. Local teams dedicated to hiring and developing young talent drive the strong presence of apprentices.
Installer training is integral to our customer-centric approach. We tailor local programs to meet the specific needs of each target group, making them relevant, practical, and attractive.
Best-Practice Examples
Employee training
Our internal enablement trainings for employees related to various projects (e.g., HANA, ESRS) are strong examples of fostering continuous learning. Additionally, compliance trainings, local health & safety trainings, and the promotion of professional skill development trainings contributed to overall success.
Hungary, France, and the UK: Apprentice development
It is common practice in these countries to hire many apprentices. They emphasized proper onboarding, comprehensive training, and continuous support throughout the apprenticeship, which are key factors for success. Additionally, providing apprentices with meaningful professional tasks, rather than just administrative duties, is a strong motivator for retention.
Installer training
Our experience and training centers offer hands-on product and system solution training, application testing, and expert-led discussions.
France: Installer trainings at CAMPUS wienerberger Koramic
This 200 m² dedicated space helps roofing professionals navigate the photovoltaic market with a combination of theoretical and practical training. Led by Koramic experts, the training ensures in-depth knowledge transfer on specialized topics.
Czech Republic: Installer trainings at the Experience Center
The center provides state-of-the-art training on wienerberger's entire product range. It equips construction companies with expertise, guided by experienced engineers, to apply knowledge effectively on real construction sites.
Challenges and Lessons Learned
Challenges in fostering a development-focused culture, resulting in higher training hours, stem from competing priorities and the need for dedicated time and resources for training initiatives. Developing more local trainers and administrators improves training initiatives' promotion, implementation, and tracking.
We’ve seen that apprentices bring fresh perspectives when adequately trained, onboarded, and given the resources to balance work and studies.
Building strong relationships with installers through community-driven knowledge-sharing is a core focus. By continuously adapting training programs, we meet the evolving needs of our target groups, translating customer feedback into tailored learning experiences.
Future Commitment
We plan to expand our training offerings, enhance on-the-job training, roll out the learning system, and embed it into the production environment. We remain committed to developing the next generation of talent through apprenticeships and hands-on learning. Our training programs empower professionals with the skills and confidence to succeed, strengthening our connections with installers. Our training programs are a key part of our expert services, designed to empower and upskill professionals through hands-on learning and personalized support.
